Business Web Hosting Options

Following on from last post about installing the business web hosting site, this post looks at WordPress options.

I already mentioned the General options. Here are the rest.

WordPress Writing Options

I just change edit box to make a bit bigger. 15-20 lines is enough.

I used to add extra pinging services, but don’t bother now, as I can’t see any extra benefit to justify the risk of duplicate pinging. If you know different, please let me know.

WordPress Writing Options

Left as defaults. Might be a good idea to increase number of blogs if you blog frequently and use <!--more-->a lot.

Static home page is good for structured information reference type site. Can be changed later once you get the content written.

WordPress Discussion Options

I leave as defaults, because I am going to add some anti-spam plugins. If you don’t, then it is better to set admin approval to true.

WordPress Privacy Options

I leave as defaults, unless I’m going to be late getting some content done.

WordPress Permalink Options

Change permalink to /%postname%/

Can’t see any reason for having more. Have never tested adding keyword to all links.

WordPress Miscellaneous Options

Changed month and year to false. Unless you are going to upload lots of stuff, it just makes it harder to find files. Now’s a good time to check the uploads folder exists and is writable.
